Just down the road from the Cancer Centre at 70 Oxford Street, Mountain Ash, the Charity runs a shop selling a wide assortment of good quality second hand goods, including clothes, books, and bric-a-brac.
Working under the direction of a shop manager the shop is staffed by a dedicated team of volunteers. The volunteers each give a little or a lot of their time, as they wish, on a regular basis each week. Their work involves helping customers, dealing with purchases, sorting and pricing donated clothes and other goods, and keeping the shop neat and tidy.
Income from the shop directly funds the transport service, therapies and counselling which Cancer Support (Cynon Valley) RCT provides. But it also provides a useful service to people of the valley through making good quality second hand goods available at prices which all in the community can afford. We are all becoming much more aware these days of the need to recycle things we use, and to cut down on waste. The shop is a first class example of recycling in action.
We very much welcome donations of good quality clothes; books; small, working electrical goods; CDs and DVDs; and bric-a-brac which we can sell. We cannot accept large items of furniture
As mentioned above, our volunteers make the shop the success which it has become. Would you like to join them? Whether you can spare just a couple of hours a week or more you will be very welcome. You will become part of a friendly, supportive team. And whilst you are helping your community you might learn some very useful new skills.
